Title

Body
WHEREAS, the completion of the Newtown Pike Extension, Phase III - Scott Street Connector Project, which would be the final phase of the Newtown Pike Extension, would be of great value and benefit to the community; and
WHEREAS, the completion of this Project would provide multimodal access, reduce congestion in downtown Lexington and direct access from the interstates to the University of Kentucky campus and surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, this Project would be in partnership with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Federal Highway Administration; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Metropolitan Planning Organization has approved supporting the Project; and
WHEREAS, the Office of United States Representative Andy Barr has indicated that there May be federal funding available in an amount of up to $20 million to assist certain transportation projects from the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill; and
WHEREAS, the Newtown Pike Extension, Phase III - Scott Street Connector Project, would be an ideal local use of such funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
Section 1 - That the above recitals are incorporated herein as if fully stated.
