Title

A Resolution of the Urban County Council expressing support of amendments to KRS Chapter 67A to allow for the furlough of Classified Civil Service employees in order for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government to meet financial obligations and address budgetary shortfalls. [Council Office, Maynard]

 

Body

WHEREAS, KRS 67A.300 currently limits the circumstances under which an employee’s pay can be reduced and does not allow for reductions in pay for other reasons; and

WHEREAS, the Urban County Council may wish to address a budgetary crisis by reducing personnel costs; and

WHEREAS, the Council for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government would like  the ability to address an economic crisis or budgetary shortfall by implementing furloughs for Classified Civil Service Employees.

                     NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:

                     Section 1 - That the Council of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government expresses support for an amendment to KRS 67A to allow for furloughs in times of economic crises, global pandemic, state of emergency declared by the governor or the mayor, acts of God impacting the economy, or other similar crises, where urban county government revenue streams are impacted making it difficult to balance the budget or meet other financial obligations.

                     Section 2 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
