WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends made Lexington, Kentucky its home in 2001 and have actively supported and invested in our community ever since; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends are great stewards and representatives of the game of baseball. The Lexington Legends have made Minor League Baseball affordable, accessible, and enjoyable to people of all ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic classes; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends have exemplified award-winning operations, in receiving recognition as the best Class A minor league team; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends are back-to-back South Atlantic Champions; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends employ hundreds of individuals within our community, directly and indirectly, and provide on average $47 million in annual economic impact; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends are financially successful and possess strong family ownership and management and are great examples of private sector investment and leadership; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Legends give back to our community and provide on average $1 million annually through cash and in-kind contributions to local non-profits, schools, and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Lexington-Fayette County and surrounding local communities have overwhelmingly benefited from the presence of the Lexington Legends in our community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
Section 1 - That the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, by and through its Council, hereby proclaims its support of the Lexington Legends.
Section 2 - That the Clerk of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council be and hereby is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Andy Shea, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Lexington Legends, Whitaker Bank Ballpark, 207 Legends Lane, Lexington, Kentucky 40505; and to Mr. Rob Manfred, the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, 245 Park Avenue, New York, New York 10167.
Section 3 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
