Summary

Body

                     WHEREAS, Lexington is home to approximately 318,000 citizens, many of whom have directly and indirectly experienced the tragedy of opioid addiction; and

                     WHEREAS, Lexington, as home to many of the Commonwealth’s best medical facilities, including the University of Kentucky Hospital, the No. 1 ranked hospital in Kentucky, regularly serves as a temporary hometown for Kentuckians in need of medical care, including those whose medical needs are occasioned or exacerbated by opioid addiction; and

                     WHEREAS, Lexington desires to retain the law firm of Levin, Papantonio, Thomas, Mitchell, Rafferty & Proctor, PA, and other associated firms to advise and represent it regarding the litigation of claims against those in the chain of distribution of prescription opiates responsible for the opioid epidemic that is plaguing Lexington-Fayette County.

                     NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:

                     Section 1 - That the Department of Law, on behalf of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, be and hereby is authorized to negotiate and execute a Legal Services Agreement with and retain the law firm of Levin, Papantonio, Thomas, Mitchell, Rafferty & Proctor, PA, and other associated firms for counsel and representation regarding the litigation of claims against those in the chain of distribution of prescription opiates responsible for the opioid epidemic that is plaguing Lexington-Fayette County.

                     Section 2 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
