A Resolution of the Urban County Council expressing the support of the Urban County Council for the expansion and continued permitting of the Central Ky. Landfill. [Council Office, Maynard]

WHEREAS, the Central Kentucky Landfill receives solid waste for disposal from Lexington-Fayette County, pursuant to an Agreement between the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and Waste Services of the Bluegrass, which has been in force and effect since 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Energy and Environment Cabinet of the Commonwealth of Kentucky ("Cabinet") previously received an application from Waste Services of the Bluegrass for a permit to expand landfill capacity at the Central Kentucky Landfill and an amended local solid waste management plan that would operate to limit landfill capacity at the Central Kentucky Landfill; and
WHEREAS, by virtue of its Agreement with Waste Services of the Bluegrass for solid waste disposal, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government receives revenue from electricity generated by a methane collection system installed at the Central Kentucky Landfill; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government believes that, if the Central Kentucky Landfill does not expand, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government will incur a financial burden and a loss of revenue and that it will hurt Lexington and the region economically; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government acknowledges that the Cabinet is guided in these matters by the objectives of the statewide solid waste reduction and management plan and KRS Chapter 224 and administrative regulations adopted by the Cabinet; and
