Title
A Resolution changing the name of Red Mile Place from its intersection with Red Mile Rd. to its terminus to Harry Sykes Way. [Council Office, Maynard]
Body
WHEREAS, Red Mile Place is the street address of several LFUCG-owned facilities, i.e., Family Care Center, Lexington Day Treatment, Division of Youth Services, Safety City, and Juvenile Probation Services; and
WHEREAS, Red Mile Place is often confused with Red Mile Road and Red Mile Court making it difficult to locate Department of Social Services’ providers; and
WHEREAS, a street name change would mitigate confusion in determining the location for clients, visitors and first responders; and
WHEREAS, it has been proposed that Harry Sykes Way would be an appropriate name, thereby recognizing the City of Lexington’s first African-American city commissioner, Mayor Pro Tem, and Vice-Mayor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sykes was the City of Lexington’s last City Manager and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s first Chief Administrative Officer; and
WHEREAS, additionally, Mr. Sykes was a teacher and coach at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School and the founding President of the Lexington-Fayette Urban League; and
WHEREAS, the street name change to Harry Sykes Way would posthumously honor Mr. Sykes for his legacy of community leadership in Lexington-Fayette County.

Section 1 - That the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council hereby changes the name of Red Mile Place from its intersection with Red Mile Road to its terminus to Harry Sykes Way.
