A Resolution expressing the Urban County Council's opposition to the closing of the United States Postal Service (USPS) mail processing facility on Nandino Blvd., and encouraging the preservation of postal jobs at this location in Lexington-Fayette County. [Council Office, Maynard]
Body
WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent federal agency that provides vital services affecting all citizens; and
      WHEREAS, USPS has reinstituted plans to close and consolidate various postal service locations in Kentucky; and
      WHEREAS, closing the Nandino Boulevard processing and distribution center would affect approximately 290 Lexington employees and reroute the processing and distribution of local mail into other counties.
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
      Section 1 - That the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council hereby expresses its opposition to the closing of the USPS mail processing facility on Nandino Boulevard, and encourages the preservation of postal jobs at this location in Lexington-Fayette County.
      Section 2 - That the Clerk of the Urban County Council is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to U.S. Postmaster General Megan Brennan, 475 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Washington, D.C. 20260-0010; Kentucky Congressional Delegation, Senator Mitch McConnell, 361A Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510-1702; Kentucky Congressional Delegation, Senator Rand Paul, SRC5 Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510-1703; Kentucky Congressional Delegation, Representative Andy Barr, 1432 Longworth House Office Building, Washington D.C. 20515-1706.
        Section 3 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
