Summary

 

Authorization to submit applications, and accept awards if offered, to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for participation In Traffic Safety Programs to include Traffic Safety, Speed Enforcement, Impaired Driving, and Distracted Driving for Fiscal Year 2017.  The Division of Police has prepared four applications for submission to the Governor’s Highway Safety Program in the Department of Transportation Safety/Kentucky Transportation Cabinet requesting federal funding for continuation of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s Traffic Safety Programs for FY2017.  The federal funds originate from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Standards Branch. Total federal funding in the amount of $216,520 is being requested for FY2017 for officer overtime, Medicare, unemployment, training and equipment.  No local match is required.  No cost in future Budget years.                      BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:

                     Section 1 - That the Mayor, on behalf of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, be and hereby is authorized and directed to execute and submit four (4) Grant Applications, which are attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, to provide any additional information requested in connection with these Grant Applications, and to accept the Grants if the applications are approved, which Grant funds are in the amount of $216,520 Federal funds, are for the Traffic Safety Program ($78,760), the Speed Enforcement Project ($77,760), DUI Enforcement ($30,000) and the Distracted Driving Project ($30,000), and the acceptance of which does not obligate the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government for the expenditure of funds.

                     Section 2 - That subject to the provisions of Ordinance No. 22-79, the Mayor is hereby authorized, in his discretion as Chief Executive Officer of the Urban County Government, to transfer the unencumbered balance of any operating or capital account appropriation to another operating or capital account appropriation within the Grant Budget established herein.

                     Section 3 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
