Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and certain elected officials. [Council Office, Maynard]
Body
      WHEREAS, Versailles Road is one of Lexington's major arterial roadways, running from the City of Versailles to downtown Lexington; and
      WHEREAS, Versailles Road also forms part of U.S. Route 60 (US 60); and
      WHEREAS, the Multimodal Alternative Evaluation of Versailles Road, prepared by the Kentucky Transportation Center (KTC) in May 2013 evaluated the feasibility of road diet options capable of balancing multi-modal uses, including vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle, and transmit modes within the Versailles Road Corridor; and
      WHEREAS, the Lexington-Fayette County Government also commissioned a study to thoroughly investigate current conditions within the Versailles Road corridor in order to create a basis for recommendations and proposals regarding the following: vegetation, bike lanes, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, pedestrian and public transit amenities, bicycle accommodations, sidewalks, crosswalks, and traffic control measures and devices; and
      WHEREAS, implementation of the Versailles Road Corridor Study is expected to improve existing infrastructure associated with streets and roads, increase opportunities for a multi-modal environment, provide a linear gateway into downtown Lexington, and create a unique street environment with visual enhancements; and
      WHEREAS, the preliminary planning, design and engineering efforts that have been dedicated to the Versailles Road Corridor Study will accelerate completion of the construction process once funds are available.
      NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
      Section 1 - That the above recitals are incorporated herein as if fully stated.
      Section 2 - That the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council hereby supports implementation of the findings and recommendations contained in the Versailles Road Corridor Study, and encourages future state funding for this project;
      Section 3 - That the Clerk of the Urban County Council is hereby authorized and directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), 200 Mero Street, Frankfort, Kentucky 40622, and to the following elected officials at their respective offices: United States Senator Rand Paul, United States Senator Mitch McConnell, United States Congressman Andy Barr, Governor Steven L. Beshear, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on State and Local Government, Joe Bowen, Chairman of the House Local Government Committee, Steven Riggs, House Speaker Greg Stumbo, Senate President Robert Stivers, Senator Alice Forgy Kerr, Senator Reginald Thomas, Senator Tom Buford, Senator Ralph Alvarado, Senator Jared K. Carpenter, Representative Russ Meyer, Representative Stan Lee, Representative James Kay, Representative Ryan Quarles, Representative Sannie Overly, Representative Kelly Flood, Representative Ruth Ann Palumbo, Representative George A. Brown, Jr., Representative Susan Westrom, and Representative Robert J. Benvenuti, III.
Section 4 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
