A Resolution expressing the support of the Urban County Council for the Newtown Pike Extension, Phase 3 - Scott Street Connector Project and a request to obtain up to $7 million of the necessary $30 million in project funding from Federal Highway Infrastructure Projects funds, with assistance from the Office of United States Representative Andy Barr; and authorizing and directing the Mayor or her designee to submit any necessary forms or documents related to such request. WHEREAS, the completion of the Newtown Pike Extension, Phase III - Scott Street Connector Project, which would be the final phase of the Newtown Pike Extension, would be of great value and benefit to the community; and

WHEREAS, the completion of this Project would provide multimodal access, reduce congestion in downtown Lexington and direct access from the interstates to the University of Kentucky campus and surrounding area; and

WHEREAS, this Project would be in partnership with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Federal Highway Administration; and

WHEREAS, the Lexington Metropolitan Planning Organization has approved supporting the Project; and

WHEREAS, the Office of United States Representative Andy Barr has indicated that there May be federal funding available in an amount of up to $7 million to assist with certain capital projects from federal Highway Infrastructure Projects funds; and

WHEREAS, the Newtown Pike Extension, Phase III - Scott Street Connector Project, would be an ideal local use of such funding.

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:

                     Section 1 - That the above recitals are incorporated herein as if fully stated.

                     Section 2 - That the Council of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government hereby expresses its support for the Newtown Pike Extension, Phase III - Scott Street Connector Project, and further supports the submission of this project to the Office of United States Representative Andy Barr for funding of up to $7 million.

Section 3 - That the Mayor, or her designee, be and hereby is authorized and directed to execute and provide any necessary forms or supporting documentation related to the project to the Office of United States Representative Andy Barr.

                     Section 4 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
