WHEREAS, the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, at the request of the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts, established a Corrective Action Plan for the Bluegrass Area Development District, which was approved by the United States Department of Labor and initiated on April 8, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet’s Corrective Action Plan concluded on January 29, 2016; and
WHEREAS, on March 31, 2016, the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet issued a final determination that the Bluegrass Area Development District misused Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and Trade Adjustment Assistance funds, which must be repaid in the amount of $898,525.00, and that significant findings from the review remain unresolved; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
Section 1 - That the Urban County Council hereby requests that the United States Department of Labor, Office of the Inspector General, audit the Bluegrass Area Development District’s management and use of Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and Trade Adjustment Assistance funds.
Section 2 - That the Council Clerk shall send a copy of this Resolution to the following upon passage: Thomas E. Perez, Secretary of Labor, United States Department of Labor; Scott S. Dahl, Inspector General, United States Department of Labor; Hal Heiner, Cabinet Secretary, Kentucky Education & Workforce Development Cabinet.
Section 3 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
