Body
WHEREAS, America in Bloom promotes nationwide beautification through education and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, America in Bloom - Lexington identified a number of flowers, all of which were: relatively long-blooming; drought and sun tolerant; and suitable for mass and single plantings; and
WHEREAS, America in Bloom - Lexington conducted a survey which gave citizens the ability to vote on the flowers to identify an official flower of Lexington;
WHEREAS, the Purple Coneflower (Echinacea Purpura) received the highest number of votes in the survey;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
Section 1 - That the above recitals are incorporated herein as if fully stated.
Section 2 - That the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council hereby designates the Purple Coneflower (Echinacea Purpura) as the official flower for the City of Lexington;
Section 3 - That this Resolution shall become effective on the date of its passage.
