Body
WHEREAS, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government ("LFUCG") recognizes that becoming more energy efficient is key to Lexington-Fayette County becoming a more resilient and sustainable community; and
WHEREAS, resilient and sustainable communities result in healthy environments for their citizens and promote economic growth; and
WHEREAS, a diverse group of community stakeholders, consultants, and others developed the Empower Lexington plan which is intended to facilitate voluntary reductions in per capita energy use; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, the Urban County Council adopted Resolution No. 220 - 2012 in support the Empower Lexington plan and further resolved to work with community stakeholders and citizens to implement the Empower Lexington plan as resources allow; and
WHEREAS, in connection with the 2018 Comprehensive Plan Update, the Urban County Council adopted goals and objectives that included, among others, reducing Lexington-Fayette County's carbon footprint and continuing programs and initiatives to improve energy efficiency; and
WHEREAS, community stakeholders have, on a volunteer basis, continued to advocate the voluntary implementation of energy efficiency and sustainability measures identified in the Empower Lexington plan; and
WHEREAS, employment of professional staff to facilitate efforts to improve energy efficiency and promote sustainability in ways consistent with the Empower Lexington plan will benefit the citizens of Lexington-Fayette County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE URBAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
